Restoration Project, School of Architecture-NTUA, Athens, 2007

Participation in the exhibition “IMAGINE THE CITY- Peloponnese”, 2013

The object of the study is the fire-stricken mountain village Livadaki, which is placed in Peloponnese, and was in its majority burnt by the conflagration in August 2007. The project involves a complex of five village residences and their surroundings, includes the redesign of the destroyed buildings and reconstruction of the surrounding area. The buildings’ condition and damages held are also evaluated.

The aim of the synthesis is the rebuild of the houses with respect to the traditional architecture, building materials and the needs of inhabitants. The provincial morphology is maintained along with bio-climatic operation, taking into account the climatic change in the area, after the destruction of most of its flora and fauna.

\In the wider residential environment, existing routes are reconstituted, focusing in the rainwater runoff. Furthermore, flood defense integration and anti-corrosion constructions are designed, as the village is located on the mountainside. The use of metal boxes filled with stones are used as a means of retaining soil, because the destruction of vegetation has reduced the ground’s ability to absorb water.

These anti-corrosion constructions are also interactive objects for passengers, they are painted in bright colors and interfere amicably in the neighborhood. Our goal is an aesthetic improvement of the district, with small- scale changes, safety and gaming experience in everyday life.
